Name Of Test Or Operation:
Pylorectomy
Reason The Test Or Operation Was Carried Out:
Operation for Pyloric Stenosis
What Was Your Experience Of The Test/Operation:
Our son was born 4 weeks early and began projectile vomiting, became dehyrdrated and had problems feeding and was crying all the time. We took him to A&E and they diagnosed pyloric stenosis - using an ultrasound. We had to wait 2 days for the operation as it needed to be done in a specialist hospital in London. He was nil by mouth, and put on a drip and we were taken by ambulance. I was allowed to take my son down to the theatre and kiss him goodbye. He was gone for about an hour and a surgeon then came to tell me he was ok and I could go to see him in the recovery room.
Next Steps:
We later found out that he didn't have pyloric stenosis after all but they performed the operation in case. he was later found to have a different gut condition.
After Care:
We stayed in hospital for about another 30 hours till he was passing urine and stools and feeding. We were given calpol to take home for him and he needed his wound checking by our practice nurse.
