Name Of Test Or Operation:
Gastrostomy
Other Names Test Or Operation Known By:
G-Peg
Reason The Test Or Operation Was Carried Out:
Failure to thrive and unable to tolerate food
What Was Your Experience Of The Test/Operation:
The children had to be put to sleep, then by endoscope they shine a light from in side out where the G-peg is going to be placed, once this is done they make a small cut in the skin and push the G-peg through from the inside out. The back plate is then secured in the stomach wall so that the G-peg can not move about. The children were under for about 45mins.
After Care:
The site needs to be cleaned, the G-peg needs to be turned and pushed in slightly and pulled back out so the plate does not sink into the stomach. It also needs to be flushed before and after every feed and kept clean to stop infection.
