NG (nasogastric tube) feeding for children with swallowing problems
The Birmingham Childrens Hospital have produced a useful leaflet for parents of children with swallowing problems who need an ng tube to feed.
The leaflet is great because it covers the different types of tubes (long term tubes are used for 4-6weeks and short term used for 5-7 days) and explains in detail how the tube is passed down the childs nasal passage.
It also explains how to test that the tube is in the correct position and what to do if it becomes blocked. It also covers how to clean the tube and general care.
