Spitting food out and dysphagia

hi
My 4 year old has EGID and he used to have frequent phases of choking / dysphagia. He used to spit food out all the time too. Over the last year the choking has reduced lots but he's still spitting food most days. He seems to do it to stop himself choking? A specialist suggested recently that the choking could be a sensory problem rather than a physical one but no one knows. Does anyone else have any experience of this? If it's a sensory problem then how does it get resolved? How is it treated?
He hates gettting messy and having things on his skin - including scratches so he does seem to have some sensory issues but is the spitting one of them?
Thanks
Kitty
