Recurrent Mouth Ulcers

Hi
does anyone else have a child with recurrent mouth ulcers?
I was wondering whether anyone had discovered a good treatment?
Both my sons have a problem with ulcers and it's miserable for them. We are seeing an oral surgeon next week and hope to get some help and advice. will post their advice on Parentsown for other parents to read.

our sons's blood tests showed he didn't have any vitamin B12 deficiencies so the consultant said they can't tell for sure why he is having the recurrent ulcers. The best they can do is try to treat the symptoms but because he's only 4 the options are limited. They've prescribed us a local anaesthetic spray so at least brushing his teeth is less painful. We can also use a gel called adcortyl orabase (u can get it prescribed by your GP) sometimes - not too often as it's a steroid.
Apparently recurrent mouth ulcers can be linked to gut disorders (which my sons both have) and the ulcers tend to improve in the summer months when the gut disorder is less severe - here's hoping they're right!
P.s they also advised us that if a child gets an ulcer over 1cm long or an ulcer that lasts for 3 weeks or more then it must be checked out by a GP.
I hope this info helps someone.
Hi
if anyone is looking for a good treatment to help with mouth ulcers then 'Difflam Spray' works really well. it is a local anaesthetic so we can use it before we brush our sons teeth and before he eats and it has been helping to numb the pain. I think it is prescription only though.
We recommend using a toothpaste with no Sodium Lauryl Sulphate (SLS), this is the foaming agent commonly added to toothpastes and is known to aggravate mouth ulcers.
Brush-Baby’s Baby & Toddler and Children's Toothpaste are SLS free.
where did you buy the Brush Baby toothpaste?
