Grommet insertion and adenoid removal

To have the grommets inserted and adenoids removed, Callum needed to have a General anaesthetic. I was obviously stressed at the idea of this and when his surgeon said he would be up and about as normal eating chocolate cake that same afternoon I thought he was joking but I have to say that amazingly that is exactly what happened! The operation took just under an hour. When Callum came round from the GA he was very distressed and thrashing around. I literally had to hold him down to stop him hurting himself. To be honest, this was the worst part of the whole experience as I had no idea that the GA would make him react like that when he came round. However this only lasted for a few minutes and by the time we were back on the ward and I gave him some milk he was absolutely fine. Within an hour he had eaten a banana and he was sent home 2 hours later. That same afternoon at home you would not even have known he had been in hospital. He was acting and eating absolutely normally and had no pain or discomfort from the operation. It was advised I stayed at home within for 5 days to ensure he didn't pick up any infections, but had it not been for that risk, he quite easily could have continued with his normal activites the day after the operation. Overall, the whole experience was much less scary that I expected and Callum was not distressed by it at all.
