The Information centre is a resource that is created by the users of Parentsown.co.uk.
If you have information (white papers, useful links, studies, advice etc) that you think other parents could benefit from add a page (using the link below) to create a new page in the Eye and Sight Conditions and Blindness Information centre book.
All links will automatically turn in to a web link, and you can attach files (pdf's, Word documents etc) if you wish.
The more pages we add the more information there will be for parents to search on.

Our youngest son had perioribital cellulitis at 17months old. He had a slightly puffy eye one evening but nothing too bad. But when he woke the following morning his eye was massively swollen and he couldn't open it. I was so shocked. I panicked and took him straight to the doctors surgery - they told me it could be cellulitis and to give antibiotics and chloramphenical eye drops but that was it. By that afternoon it was getting much worse and i became so worried that i took him to A&E. He was admitted and given I.V antibiotics for a few days. I'm so relieved I took him and ignored the GP's advice - as I was told at A&E that orbital cellulitis can become very serious.
If your child has a massively swollen eye then it's best to seek medical advice and don't be scared to go to A&E. Early intervention can save your childs sight and prevent more serious complications.
This link has a good (and very thorough) description of the condition:
If your child scratches his/her eye and is in pain and distress then you can get some medication that helps heal it. We got some for our 6month old son from A&E but you may also be able to get it from a GP?
It healed our sons eye within 24hours! Which was a big relief as he had been screaming and screaming with pain since he'd done it!
