Allergy Appointment

Well our youngest son had his allergy appointment today at St Thomas's and it was a good appt. Dr Fox at St Thomas was great and I felt he really listened to us and understood the gut issues.

Our son had skin prick testing done and we were told he doesn't have any immediate allergies to wheat, dairy, egg, pollen, dust mites, pets which is great.

However, they agree with GOSH that his gut problems are related to delayed reactions.  We were advised our son will probably need to go back onto prophylactic antibiotics for 6 months - Azithromycin - to stop him flaring this winter like he did last winter. Its a bit of a step back as we thought we'd got rid of that drug and it did affect his willingness to eat, but it could have been worse. It will be worth it if he has less pain than last winter.

Interestingly, when we took him off the antihistamines ready for the skin prick tests there were massive changes in his behaviour. He was a lot less aggressive and much more cooperative! St Thomas's have advised us to reintroduce one drug at a time until we find the culprit - which they thought is more likely to be ketotifen than the nalcom or cetirizine.  The up side this week was the behaviour change but the downside was increased tummy ache and insomnia.

We will start trialling the meds now as each trial takes a week and we also need to do a Neocate Active trial - all before we go to GOSH in 6 weeks so gotta get on with it! Between both boys we are doing various trials and it does get really confusing! i have written myself a diary to try and help. Got to remember to write down  their symptoms each day too so i can compare week to week.
