Please could you tell me if my daughter has toddler diarrhoea? She is nearly 18months and her nappies are a mix of runny with food still in it and smelly. I talked to my health visitor and she said there's something called toddler diarrhoea but I dont know what this means or what I should feed her to stop it happening?
Toddler's diarrhoea is a common cause of chronic (persistent) diarrhoea in young children. It mainly affects children between the ages of 1 and 5 years and is more common in boys.
Toddler's diarrhoea is not serious and the child is well. The diarrhoea will go as the child becomes older. The diet of young children is often not ideal and is thought to contribute to the cause. The diarrhoea will often stop if the diet is generally improved. Try to introduce wholegrain cereals like shreddies, weetabix or fruit n fibre, cut down on fruit juice or fruit squash, make sure they are drinking full fat milk and having yogurts, cheese and milky puddings and 5 portions of fruit and vegetables per day.
You could introduce a children's daily probiotic.
